Why a backyard thermal spa works in Vancouver

Built for the climate
it's standing in.

A

Built for Pacific Northwest weather

Marine-grade 316L stainless is the same alloy used in oceanside architecture and sailboat hulls. It's engineered for Vancouver's freeze-thaw cycles, salt air off English Bay, and the constant moisture of a coastal rainforest climate. Our cedar saunas are insulated to operate down to −30°C — well past anything you'll see in the Lower Mainland.

B

Fits a Vancouver lot

The Plunge kit footprint is just 60 sq ft — smaller than a standard parking stall. It fits a Vancouver Special lot, a Kitsilano character-home backyard, a Mount Pleasant rowhouse rear garden, even a townhouse terrace. We'll site-survey for free.

C

Permits, not pain

Above-grade installations are typically classified as personal property, not real estate — which clears most City of Vancouver permit requirements in days, not months. We handle all coordination on your behalf, including any neighbourhood-specific overlays for character zones.

Vancouver-specific questions

Local answers,
to local questions.

Do I need a permit for a plunge pool or sauna in Vancouver?

Most City of Vancouver bylaws classify an above-grade plunge pool kit as personal property rather than real estate. That means most installations don't trigger the same permit timeline as an in-ground pool. Our team handles coordination with the City and any neighbourhood-specific overlays (character home zones, RT-7/RT-8 duplex lots, etc.). We'll confirm your exact path on the free site survey.

How does a Vancouver winter affect the spa?

Vancouver winters are mild by Canadian standards but wet and freeze-thaw-prone. 316L marine-grade stainless is built for exactly this — the same alloy used in coastal architecture on Cordova, Marine Drive, and Spanish Banks. The cedar sauna shell is insulated for sub-zero use. Heating costs through a Vancouver winter run roughly $100–$150/month on the Plunge kit, less if you insulate and use the auto-cover.

Will it fit on a 33×122 Vancouver Special lot?

Yes. The Plunge (Kit 01, 6′×10′ pool) sits in about a 12×16 ft total footprint with clearance. The Sanctuary (Kit 02, 7′×12′ pool plus a 4–6 person sauna pavilion) runs roughly 14×22 ft. Both fit comfortably on a standard 33×122 Vancouver Special lot with rear-yard setbacks intact. The Operator (Kit 03, 8′×15′ pool with a larger sauna) needs roughly 16×26 ft of clear yard — common on Westside or North Shore lots.

Can I host on Nore Haus Circle from a Vancouver backyard?

Yes — Nore Haus Circle launches in Vancouver first. The first 10 founding hosts in Vancouver get year-one platform fees waived. Hosts in Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, Main Street, and Commercial Drive are particularly well-positioned because of walking-distance density. Apply to host →

What's the lead time for a Vancouver install?

~ 10 weeks from deposit to first soak. 1–2 weeks for site survey + design, 5–7 weeks for fabrication in our Vancouver workshop, ~1 week for delivery (often less than a day inside the Lower Mainland), and 5 days on-site for the install crew. Most of the lead time is in the workshop — your yard is only occupied for the final week.
